2017/2018 OULS Elections

All good things come to an end, however fortunately for the OULS, the upcoming elections provide OULS members with the ideal opportunity to not only meet the level of standard that the outgoing OULS committee has set, but hopefully exceed it in the coming year.

All members of the OULS committee have dedicated the past year (or more) of their lives to helping OULS members achieve their goals. This year, the committee has offered members dedicated social events, competitions, mooting workshops, mooting competitions, avenues into heads at the OU Law School and much more. Now the time has come to pass the torch onto a new wave of members.

Benefits and Responsibilities

Being a committee member is extremely gratifying. Knowing that you have helped just one student on their career path makes the dedication worth it. Furthermore, being a committee member makes your CV look brighter and full of ‘volunteering goodness’. Work Experience and great academic results are one thing, but Law Firms love applicants who dedicate their time to helping others get a step up.

I have been a part of the OULS committee for 2 years, after originally finding about the opportunity to nominate myself after attending an OULS organised careers evening. I met some amazing people, and have liaised with top legal professionals. The networking opportunities that I have been provided are priceless, not to mention the fact that I have loved every minute of my committee positions.

There are plenty of benefits, but also a lot of responsibility to be taken on board when nominating yourself for any of the roles. I worked full time, raised a family and still found time to carry out my OULS duties, however there is a lot of work to be done as a committee member. This should not put you off, as the roles are rewarding and extremely flexible, but be realistic about how much time you can commit to your role(s).

Election Information

Nominations opened on the 13th February, and will close at 11.59pm on 5th March, so you have plenty of time to create and submit the perfect election statement, highlighting your skills that you can bring to the committee. This year we have almost doubled our membership due to the hard work of the committee, therefore the incoming committee will have big boots to fill!

For more information on the OULS elections, the time table, and how to nominate yourself, please download the Election 2017 Information Sheet, or contact election@ouls.org for more information.

Please also feel free to contact the current committee member of the position(s) you would like to apply for. You can find the contact details of all current committee members here.
